Urumqi is the capital of Xinjiang province, although it is a modern city, but you should stop here at least once or twice to visit Xinjiang area, since it is the key point for transportation, has the most international ,domestic flights and trains, besides, it also has the most beautiful land in Western China – Heavenly Lake, and the biggest historical Silk Road museum in central Asia – Xinjiang Regional Museum.

Day 1 Urumqi to Heavenly Lake,110km

In the morning we drive to the lake, It is 110 km away from Urumqi, normally it take about two and half hours to reach the lake side, first 70km we will take our car, last 30 kilometer need to get shuttle bus, Heavenly Lake is one of the best natural sight of Xinjiang, surface of the lake is 1910 meters above sea level, one kilometer up from Urumqi. It is surrounded by high peaks covered by ice and snow. You can walk along the lake or hiking through the woods and grass.

In the afternoon, come back to Urumqi and visit the Grand Bazaar, a market for both locals and tourists to walk around and buy the local Special, like daily products, hand crafts and musical instruments.

Day 2 Urumqi to Nanshan pasture,70km

After breakfast, we will visit the Xinjiang museum, get to know the history, culture and people of Xinjiang. Then travel to Southern pasture, it is also part of Tianshan mountain range, inhabited by nomadic Kazakh people. It is a good place to go hiking, horse riding and try authentic Kazakh cuisine. Go back to Urumqi end the tour.
